Slab foundation building
Norman is built almost entirely on slab-on-grade foundations, which is standard across central Oklahoma because the clay-heavy soil makes basement construction impractical. That same clay soil is also what puts the most stress on those slabs over time - swelling when spring rains hit, then shrinking and pulling away from foundation edges during dry Oklahoma summers. Whether you are building a new structure, replacing a damaged slab, or adding onto an existing home, getting the base preparation right is the single most important decision you will make. Read more about what proper slab construction in this region requires on our slab foundation building page.
